The Rivers State Government says arrangements have been concluded for the commencement of the second phase of the World Bank-supported RIV-CARE project.
RIV-CARE, which stands for Rivers State Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus, is designed to reduce poverty and improve livelihoods across communities in the state.
The Commissioner for Finance and Budget, Lekue Kenneth, told our correspondent that the first phase of the project ended last year, while preparations for the second phase are now underway.
He explained that an assessment is currently being carried out to evaluate the impact of the first phase and to address challenges encountered during implementation.
Kenneth also confirmed that the state government is providing counterpart funding for the project, commending Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the release of funds and pledging continued monitoring of the programme.
Meanwhile, the Acting State Auditor-General, Dr Yorkina Christian Barisua, said audit and verification exercises have commenced across all RIV-CARE delivery platforms in the state, in line with statutory requirements.
She noted that the exercise is aimed at ensuring strict compliance with guidelines governing project implementation and accountability.
