Fubara Approves New Salary Structure for Rivers Tertiary Institutions

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has approved a new salary structure for staff of all state-owned tertiary institutions, effective from 2026.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr Peters Nwagor, announced the approval on Thursday during a familiarisation visit to the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt.

Speaking to stakeholders at the university’s Postgraduate Hall, Nwagor said the visit was aimed at assessing the conditions at the institution and strengthening collaboration between the state government and the university.

The Commissioner assured staff that payment under the new salary structure, including all accrued arrears, would commence once funds are released by the state government.

According to Nwagor, the approval aligns with the 2026 agreements reached by the Federal Government with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU.

He explained that the new package covers the Consolidated University Academic Staff Salary Structure, CONUASS, and the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Staff Salary Structure, CONTISS.

Nwagor added that the revised structure also includes enhanced allowances and other benefits for staff of the state-owned tertiary institutions.
