Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, security agencies and the Tinubu administration against militarising the Osun governorship election.
Atiku also cautioned against the use of state institutions to gain partisan advantage during the election.
Speaking at the ADC National Youth Leadership Summit in Abuja, Atiku described the Osun governorship election as a test of Nigeria’s ability to conduct credible and transparent elections ahead of the next general election.
He expressed concern over the scale and posture of security deployment for the poll, saying it appeared more suited to preparations for war than a civil democratic exercise.
Atiku urged INEC and security agencies to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner, without intimidation or undue interference.
