State of Emergency in Rivers Was for Political Control –Chetam Nwala

Lawyer and activist, Chetam Nwala, has alleged that the State of Emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu was driven by political motives rather than concerns about insecurity or governance breakdown.

Nwala claimed the move was aimed at taking control of the state, describing it as an orchestrated plan by the President to “capture” Rivers for personal and political gain.

He argued that if the decision were truly in the interest of peace and order, the President would have restored the state’s democratically elected structures following the peace agreement between the suspended governor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Nwala also accused the President of subjecting the people of Rivers State to unnecessary suffering, describing the situation as unjust punishment.
