The clarification was made in a statement released by the Deputy Director Press in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, SAMUEL OLOWOKERE, which confirmed that talks between government and ASUU continues as work resumes today after the Sallah holiday.
Contrary to earlier reports that the Vice President, Professor YEMI OSINBAJO was taking over the government negotiation team, the statement indicates that the Minister of Labour and Employment will continue to lead the discussions with ASUU as the chief conciliator of industrial disputes in the country.
It said the Minister of Education whose Ministry is the employer of the university lecturers remains a part of the Federal Government negotiating team with ASUU.
The spokesman for the Labour Ministry noted that a consultative meeting that was held at the office of the Vice President after last Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting was in consolidation of the negotiations so far held with ASUU.
