The Rivers State Government has assured residents of Eleme Local Government Area that their losses and suffering occasioned by the recent devastating flooding in the area have not gone unnoticed.
The assurance was given by the Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Rivers State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, Professor Ngozi Nma-Odu, during the presentation of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Eleme.
Speaking through the Head of Service, Rivers State, Inyingi Brown, Professor Nma-Odu said Governor Siminalayi Fubara sympathised with residents affected by the flooding and was committed to addressing their challenges.
She said the government was carefully studying the situation with a view to finding lasting solutions to the recurring flooding in the area.
According to her, experts from the Flood and Erosion Department of the Ministry of Environment had been deployed to work with the Eleme Local Government Authority to study the area’s flooding patterns and recommend appropriate measures to mitigate the problem.
Nma-Odu subsequently presented the relief materials to the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Council, Obarilormate Ollor, who was represented by his Vice Chairman, Virtue Ekee.
Receiving the items on behalf of the council, Ekee thanked Governor Fubara for responding to the plight of flood victims in Eleme and providing relief materials to affected residents.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Royal Highness Eze Nwankwo Nnankwo and Bennett Paago expressed appreciation to the state government and members of the Flood Prevention and Management Committee for their prompt intervention to alleviate the suffering caused by the flooding.
