The request was made in a letter by the Foreign Minister YUSUF GARAAD to the US State Department after the militants captured a region with uranium deposits.
According to the letter, the Minister said the militants linked to the so-called Islamic State, have been strip mining the components.
The Ethiopian official said the current problem was too big even for the African Union forces based in Somalia.
