OpenAI’s ChatGPT accounted for 63 percent of global in-app purchase revenue generated by generative AI applications, according to a Sensor Tower market analysis reported by TechNext. The $20 monthly subscription is identified as a major driver of the platform’s revenue.
Sensor Tower says consumer spending on generative AI apps is expected to exceed four billion dollars in the first half of 2026, representing a 36 percent increase from the previous six months. ChatGPT also reached one billion monthly active users in May 2026.
However, competition in the AI market is growing, with Google Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude gaining users. Sensor Tower says ChatGPT’s share of unique users across mobile and web fell below 50 percent in March 2026.
