The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has warned dealers and investors against setting up oil and gas facilities without obtaining proper approval from the Authority.
The South-South Regional Coordinator of the NMDPRA, Victor Ojiyovwi, issued the warning in Port Harcourt while expressing concern over the increasing number of illegal filling stations, gas plants, and other petroleum-related facilities operating across Rivers State.
Ojiyovwi said the Authority will soon launch a massive clampdown on such illegal facilities to ensure full compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
He emphasized that establishing oil and gas facilities without authorization from the regulator is not only illegal but also poses serious risks to lives, property, and the environment.
The NMDPRA regional coordinator advised investors in the midstream and downstream sectors to always seek clearance from the Authority before committing funds to any project, noting that due process would protect their investments and promote safer operations within the industry.
