NLC Rejects Plan to Increase Politicians’ Pay

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has faulted the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) over its plan to review upward the remuneration packages of political office holders.

RMAFC chairman, Mohammed Shehu, had recently revealed that President Bola Tinubu earns ₦1.5 million monthly, while ministers receive less than ₦1 million, insisting the figures have remained unchanged since 2008. He argued that the situation was wrong and required adjustment.

Reacting, NLC President, Joe Ajaero, described the proposal as “insensitive, unjust, inequitable, and one that will only succeed in deepening the growing inequality between civil servants and political office holders.”
