The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Charles Wobodo, has announced an immediate ban on all forms of public gatherings following the increasing cases of killings, armed robbery, and other criminal activities in the area.
Speaking during a live broadcast, Wobodo said the decision was necessitated by the worsening security situation, which has left many residents living in fear and unable to carry out their daily activities or earn a living freely. He sympathized with families who have lost loved ones to the wave of insecurity and assured residents of the council’s commitment to restoring peace and protecting lives and property.
The council chairman stated that, with immediate effect, all public gatherings within the local government are prohibited. He explained that exemptions would only be granted in cases of genuine and compelling need, provided organizers obtain written approval from the council at least 72 hours before the proposed event. Wobodo warned that individuals or organizations that violate the directive would face appropriate sanctions, while urging residents to remain law-abiding as the council, in collaboration with security agencies, intensifies efforts to restore normalcy in the area.
