A Catholic priest, Reverend Father Jude Anara, has urged young people struggling with depression caused by rape, assault, abuse, and other traumatic experiences to seek help rather than resort to suicide.
Speaking with Today FM, Reverend Father Anara said many young people contemplate taking their own lives because they feel abandoned, neglected, and believe there is no one willing or able to help them. He attributed the situation to a lack of proper guidance, parental care, and emotional support, which often leaves victims feeling hopeless and seeing suicide as their only escape.
The cleric stressed that suicide is never the solution and can be prevented through timely intervention and adequate support. He encouraged individuals battling depression or trauma to seek counselling from religious leaders, educators, and mental health professionals, noting that sharing their experiences can ease emotional burdens. He also called on churches and schools to create safe and supportive environments where young people can openly discuss issues of abuse and mental health without fear of stigma or discrimination.
