The Federal Government has said it is intensifying efforts to investigate the gas seepage affecting Bille Community in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, led a Federal Government delegation to the community, where officials promised immediate humanitarian support and a lasting solution to the environmental crisis. Authorities said investigations into the source of the seepage were ongoing, with an international firm expected to begin detailed field studies before the end of July.
The government also pledged to provide potable water, medical outreach, firefighting support and other relief materials to residents, while assuring the community that steps would be taken to contain the situation and remediate the environment.
