According to reports, the notice falsely suggested that OPay would cease operations, creating uncertainty among customers who rely on the platform for digital payments and financial transactions.
Police subsequently arrested a woman allegedly connected to the creation and circulation of the fake announcement.
OPay has urged its customers to disregard the viral notice and rely only on the company’s verified communication channels for information about its operations.
The incident has renewed concerns about the spread of false information online, particularly when such claims involve financial institutions and could trigger panic among customers.
