The Supreme Monarch of Upata Kingdom in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, His Royal Majesty, Eze Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and traditional institutions to protect critical national assets and infrastructure in the state.
Eze Otuwarikpo made the call when he, alongside members of his Council of Chiefs, paid a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr Dennis Lesor-Reuben, at the Command’s headquarters.
The monarch expressed concern over the impact of illegal bunkering activities on Nigeria’s economy, the environment and the livelihoods of residents, particularly within Upata Kingdom.
He pledged the support of the traditional institution to the NSCDC, assuring the Command that he would provide credible intelligence that could assist in preventing threats to national infrastructure, lives and property across the kingdom.
The monarch also congratulated Dr Lesor-Reuben on his appointment as Rivers State Commandant and commended officers and men of the Command for what he described as exemplary conduct and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Responding, Dr Lesor-Reuben appreciated the monarch and his Council of Chiefs for identifying with the Corps in its responsibility of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.
The Commandant assured the monarch that the NSCDC Rivers State Command remained combat-ready to tackle emerging security threats and acts of sabotage targeting critical national assets and public infrastructure across the state.
He also warned criminal elements to steer clear of Rivers State or be prepared to face the full weight of the law.
