The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Charles Wobodo, has assured non-indigenes living and doing business in the area of adequate security for their lives and property.
Wobodo gave the assurance during a sensitisation and empowerment programme for non-indigenes held at the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government in Isiokpo.
The council chairman expressed satisfaction with the level of mobilisation by coordinators and leaders of the various non-indigenous communities.
He also warned against discrimination against non-indigenes in the distribution of political benefits, stressing that whatever is due to them should be given to them.
Speaking at the event, the member representing Ikwerre State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Prince Lemchi Nyeche, commended the leadership of the non-indigenous communities for their massive mobilisation.
Nyeche described Ikwerre as a pacesetter in political activities in Rivers State.
Also speaking, a former member representing Ikwerre-Emohua Federal Constituency, Chidi Wihioka, said the non-indigenous communities had demonstrated their support for the leadership of Ikwerre Local Government through their mobilisation.
He encouraged them to sustain their support for the council leadership.
Responding, the leader of the non-indigenous communities, Joel Macy, described the people of Ikwerre as hospitable and welcoming.
Macy assured the council leadership that the privilege and support extended to non-indigenes would not be taken for granted.
