Two of Poland’s top military commanders resign days before election

The army’s Chief of General Staff, General Rajmund Andrzejczak, and Operational Commander General Tomasz Piotrowski gave no reason for their decision.

Media reports say they are worried about attempts by the right-wing government to politicize the military ahead of Sunday’s general elections.

The government denies the claim.

It also rejects accusations by Poland’s opposition and the European Union that it is politicizing the country’s judiciary and curbing media freedoms.
