Suspected Jihadists Kill 40 In Burkina Faso

The regional governorate said a detachment of soldiers and the civilian volunteers was the target of an attack by unidentified armed men earlier near Aorema village.

The Ouahigouya governorate said in a statement said the provisional death toll was thirty four auxiliaries from the Volunteers for the Defence of the Fatherland and six soldiers, while thirty three more people were wounded and are currently being treated.

This comes after Burkina Faso’s military junta had declared a general mobilisation to give the state all necessary means to combat a string of bloody attacks blamed on jihadists affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group.

The violence has left more than ten thousand people dead and displaced two million people from their homes.
