Renowned social commentator, Opunabo Inko-Tariah, has criticized President Bola Tinubu for presenting a budget estimate of over one point forty-eight trillion naira for the 2025 fiscal year in Rivers State. This figure surpasses the budget previously presented and signed into law by Governor Fubara, which totaled approximately one point one trillion naira.
Inko-Tariah expressed skepticism about the significant increase, asserting that it underscores a recurring focus on controlling the state’s treasury. “It is now clear that capturing the treasury of Rivers State has always been the main focus in the whole political drama,” he remarked.
The social critic also called for transparency regarding the whereabouts of more than two hundred and forty-six billion naira reportedly remaining in the state treasury after the suspension of former governor, Siminalayi Fubara. He questioned the handling of these funds and demanded accountability.
Additionally, Inko-Tariah, a former aide to Rivers’ immediate past governor Nyesom Wike, criticized the declaration of a State of Emergency over insecurity, describing it as a ploy to deceive and manipulate Rivers people rather than a genuine effort to address security concerns.
