The Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator ALI NDUME briefed his colleagues on the development on the resumption of plenary.
Senator NDUME equally noted that his committee had earlier advised INEC to submit a budget for 2019 general election to avoid the problem of financial constraint.
Senator NDUME maintained that INEC cannot afford to perform below average, just as he underscored the need to fill in vacancies for State Resident Electoral Commissioners.
He also said the commission must take steps to address heightened political tension in the country due to the early announcement of the election timetable, two years ahead of time.
You will recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission last week announced that the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, 16th February, of the same year.
It also fixed the election for state governors and House of Assembly members for Saturday, 2nd of March, 2019.
On that same day, there would also be the election of representatives for the Federal Capital Territory.
