The security agencies have been urged to strengthen intelligence gathering and community engagement to ensure those responsible for the recent killing of three persons in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State are brought to justice through due process.
The Convener of the Rivers Peace Initiative, Obinna Ebogidi, made the call while reacting to the killings, which included Philip Barikui, Barikpe Barimamma and another person. Speaking in an interview with Today FM’s Uchendu Ejiowhor, Ebogidi expressed condolences to the government and people of Khana.
He said the killing of young men was particularly devastating, as it leaves families and communities to bear consequences they did not choose. Ebogidi noted that the latest incident comes amid other security challenges in Khana, including the reported killing of a former Chief Security Officer of the local government.
The Rivers Peace Initiative called on the state government, security agencies, local government authorities, traditional and community leaders, political actors and citizens to make the prevention of violence a shared priority, stressing that residents should be able to live, work and raise their families without fear.
