RIVERS RESIDENTS URGE GOVERNMENT TO REVIVE FREE BUS SCHEME

Some residents of Rivers State have appealed to the state government to revive the free bus scheme introduced as a palliative to ease the rising cost of transportation.

Speaking with our Correspondent, Eseose Onabu, the residents described the initiative as impactful, saying it helped reduce the financial burden on commuters, students and low-income earners.

While some residents said they never boarded the buses, they noted their regular operations and positive feedback from beneficiaries. Other commuters recalled their experiences and urged the government to address funding delays and expand the service beyond Port Harcourt by deploying smaller buses across the state’s other 22 local government areas.

They also called for the reinstatement of palliative buses alongside existing state initiatives to help reduce transport fares amid high fuel costs. The residents said restoring and expanding the free bus scheme would ease the burden on residents, support students and promote development across the state.
