Police, Soldiers Block Ex-Servicemen From Protesting At Defence Ministry

Armed policemen and soldiers have blocked retired military personnel from converging at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja, where the ex-servicemen planned to protest the non-implementation of consequential adjustments to their pensions.

The retirees had gathered to demand pension adjustments linked to salary increases approved for serving military personnel. Their attempt to move towards the ministry reportedly led to a confrontation with security personnel, prompting the deployment of additional officers and soldiers.

The ex-servicemen maintained that the corresponding pension adjustments should be implemented for retired personnel, amid growing concerns over delays in their entitlements. The security presence, however, prevented them from assembling at the planned protest venue.
