Rivers Liberation Movement Calls for Policy-Driven Leadership, Respect for Institutions

The Rivers Liberation Movement has urged political leaders in the state to look beyond election cycles and prioritise policies, institutional integrity, and inclusive governance as pathways to meaningful development.

Speaking at the group’s Inaugural Leadership Summit themed “Leadership, Followership and Loyalty: The Rivers Democratic Experience,” Convener Dr. Leloonu Nwibubasa said leadership should not be restricted to individuals with financial power. He stressed that professionals with the competence and willingness to serve should be allowed the opportunity to take part in governance.

Delivering the keynote address, the Head of the Department of Political Science at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Vincent Elemaya—represented by Dr. Chigbo John—said Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources but continues to lag behind due to the absence of strategic planning and focused leadership.

Dr. Nwibubasa further charged the newly inaugurated local government executives to take the group’s message across the nooks and crannies of Rivers State, emphasising the need for grassroots engagement in the push for better governance.
