Ogoni Youth Group Urges Due Process Over HYPREP Allegations

A youth group representing oil and gas host communities in Ogoniland has called on the public to allow due process to take its course over recent allegations involving the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP).

The Ogoni Oil and Gas Host Communities Youths Association (OOGHCYA) said the allegations against the Project Coordinator of HYPREP, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, should not be regarded as established facts until they have been thoroughly investigated by the appropriate authorities.

In a statement signed by its President, Teddy Gianen, the association said members of the host communities have witnessed ongoing environmental remediation and other intervention projects being carried out under HYPREP.

The group expressed confidence in Professor Zabbey’s leadership despite the controversy, maintaining that the project’s activities have continued to benefit affected communities.

OOGHCYA urged stakeholders to remain committed to the broader objective of restoring the Ogoni environment and to support the cleanup programme while relevant authorities examine the issues raised.
