MOSOP Raises Corruption Allegations Against Ogoni Dialogue Committee Leaders

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People, MOSOP, has raised concerns over allegations of corruption involving some leaders of the Ogoni Dialogue Committee, ODC, which is facilitating discussions on the resumption of oil operations in Ogoni.

In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Stephen Nmane, MOSOP called on the leadership of the ODC to publicly respond to the allegations, warning that failure to do so could undermine confidence in the dialogue process.

The organisation also condemned what it described as the commencement of oil drilling activities in parts of Ogoni, including Ban-Ogoi and Alesa-Eleme, while discussions between the Federal Government and Ogoni people remain ongoing.

MOSOP alleged that some ODC leaders may have been compromised to facilitate the reported oil operations and other contracts connected to Ogoni.

Nmane further alleged that some ODC facilitators were involved in questionable oil pipeline and surveillance contracts, as well as other financial arrangements. He called for an urgent investigation and full disclosure of the transactions.

MOSOP also demanded the immediate publication of the list of 40 employment slots reportedly allocated to Ogoni by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, alleging that some committee members had been denied access to the list.

The organisation accused some unnamed leaders of placing personal interests above the welfare of the Ogoni people, saying such actions had weakened the credibility of the dialogue process.

MOSOP also urged the Federal Government and potential investors to conduct proper due diligence before entering into agreements with individuals or groups claiming to represent Ogoni.

The organisation said it would soon convene an Ogoni National Congress to review the performance of the ODC, consider the allegations against some of its officials and determine the way forward on the dialogue over oil resumption in Ogoni.
