A civic group, Lagosians for Truth and Justice, has criticised the Nigeria Police Force’s handling of the investigation into the death of singer Mohbad and is calling for a fresh, independent inquiry.
The group said the original investigation had major inconsistencies and unanswered questions, including the failure to properly seal Mohbad’s residence, the lack of thorough questioning of people present before his death, and conflicting witness statements. They also raised concerns about how toxicology samples were handled.
The group is demanding a new investigation with full forensic analysis, re-interrogation of key individuals, and a DNA test overseen by Mohbad’s father, free from government interference.
Mohbad, aged 27, died on September 12, 2023, and his death continues to spark public debate and calls for justice.
