Emohua Council Chairman Begins Staff Verification Over Bloated Wage Bill

The Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Dr. Chidi Llyod, says he initiated the ongoing staff verification exercise to address what he described as an over-bloated wage bill inherited by his administration.

Speaking in an interview, Dr. Llyod clarified that the exercise is not targeted at anyone, insisting it is not a witch hunt. He disclosed that investigations revealed that several individuals on the council’s payroll are actually employees of the Rivers State Government who receive salaries from both ends.

The council chairman said he intends to recover all funds illegally earned by those who fraudulently collected salaries from Emohua Local Government. According to him, every revenue accruing to the council must be properly utilized to improve the living standards of the people.

Dr. Llyod added that his decision to verify the authentic staff strength in Emohua has now inspired a wider, statewide personnel audit.
