CONSUMER GROUP ACCUSES ILLEGAL TASKFORCES OF EXTORTION IN RIVERS MARKETS

A consumer rights group has urged the Rivers State Government to clamp down on illegal taskforces allegedly extorting traders under the guise of enforcing sanitation policies.

The Consumers Satisfaction and Safety Initiative says some individuals still harass traders and demand money despite the cancellation of the Thursday sanitation exercise.

The group said traders are often forced to close their shops for hours, leading to losses and hardship.

It called for proper sanitation monitoring systems that will not disrupt business activities or impose unnecessary burdens on residents and traders.
