The Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Onengiyeofori George, has called for collective action to tackle illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the area.
The council, in collaboration with the Rivers State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, is organising a one-day sensitisation programme on the dangers of illicit drugs. The programme holds today at the Hall of Fame, Asari-Toru Local Government Council Secretariat in Buguma, from 10 a.m.
Dr George said the initiative is aimed at strengthening awareness and collective action, particularly in protecting young people from the consequences of drug abuse and trafficking. Traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, women, religious and opinion leaders, as well as residents, are expected to participate in discussions on practical, community-based solutions to drug-related challenges.
