Stakeholders in Andoni Local Government Area have continued to react to the alleged abandonment of the 13.52-kilometre Ngo–Oyorokotor Atlantic Road project by the construction firm, MCC.
The project, alongside several internal roads in Ngo, was awarded by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in 2024 as part of his administration’s first anniversary infrastructure programme.
In a recent Facebook post, Senator John Azuta Mbata attributed the contractor’s withdrawal from the project site to insecurity, gang-related activities, ongoing litigation, and the erection of shrines along the road corridor by some members of the host communities.
However, community leaders have rejected the explanation.
A former councillor representing Ward One in Ngo, Atanfut Ereferokuma, described the senator’s remarks as unacceptable.
Speaking on behalf of concerned residents of the coastal communities, Ereferokuma called on Senator Mbata to provide a comprehensive explanation for the stalled project and the circumstances surrounding the contractor’s exit from the site.
