The member representing Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, has praised the partnership between the Federal Government and the Rivers State Government aimed at developing the state’s culture, tourism, and creative economy.
Abiante said the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) would attract sustainable investment to his constituency, stimulate the local economy, and boost the state’s revenue. He described the agreement as the fulfillment of his long-standing advocacy to promote the rich cultural heritage of the area and expressed confidence that it would accelerate the development of Opobo Town into a global research and tourism destination for Niger Delta history and artifacts.
The lawmaker also highlighted the untapped ecotourism potential of Andoni Local Government Area, noting that the agreement would help unlock the area’s abundant wildlife, including its native elephants, as well as its natural beaches and mangrove forests. He recalled joining the late Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom, King Dr. Dandeson Douglas Jaja, on a 2024 visit to the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, to inaugurate the technical committee for the King Jaja of Opobo Historical and Cultural Centre.
