Ijaw Groups Call for De-escalation of Political Tension Between Wike and Governor Fubara

Ijaw groups have called for the immediate de-escalation of political hostility by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, towards Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

At a joint briefing, the Eastern Zone of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) expressed concern over what they described as the increasing confrontational posture adopted by the FCT Minister. They warned that such actions pose a serious threat to public peace, democratic order, and the overall stability of Rivers State.

Speaking at the briefing, the Chairman of the Ijaw National Congress, Eastern Zone, Abel Peterside, condemned comments allegedly made by some political leaders in the state, noting that inflammatory statements could further heighten tensions.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Ijaw Youth Council, Eastern Zone, Datalu Sukugbo, alongside the Speaker of the 6th Parliament of the IYC, Gabriel Allen, reiterated their stance, calling on all parties involved to embrace dialogue and restraint in the interest of peace and unity in Rivers State.
