MACRON topped Sunday’s vote, and is now favourite to win the run-off on 7th May, having scaled through to the second round without the backing of an established party.
The result also marks the first time in six decades that neither of France’s main left-wing or right-wing parties has had a candidate in the second round.
MACRON is thirty-nine-years-old and could become France’ youngest president ever and the first in the Fifth Republic who does not belong to a major political party.
Before taking a shot at the election, MACRON was the Economy Minister of current President FRANCOIS HOLLANDE before he resigned to form his own party, known as En Marche, which pushes a liberal and pro-European Union agenda.
