The stage has been set for a final showdown in the Rivers State governorship election dispute at the Supreme Court.
This followed the judgments delivered by the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, which struck out all three appeals challenging the nullification of the election of Governor NYESOM WIKE.Reacting to the rulings yesterday, through a statement released by his media assistant, Governor WIKE said he has directed his lawyers to head to the Supreme Court.Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, SIMEON NWAKAUDU said the Governor declared his indentation to exhaust his constitutional right to seek remedy at the apex court.On his part; the APC Governorship candidate, DAKUKU PETERSIDE whose petition led to the nullification of the election of Governor WIKE, has declared his readiness for the next stage.PETERSIDE who spoke in an interview with our correspondent, JAMES IGAH, in Abuja, said he was ready to face Governor WIKE at the Supreme Court or in a re-run.The APC Governorship candidate equally dedicated his victory at the Court of Appeal to supporters of the party who were killed in election-related violence during the 2015 general election.The Court of Appeal also dismissed the appeals filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission on the Rivers State governorship election dispute.Addressing newsmen outside the Court, EMEKA NGIGE who is counsel to DAKUKU PETERSIDE of the APC, expressed happiness with the judgment.In his reaction, IFEDAYO ADEDIPE, who is the lawyer of the PDP, said there was need for a second opinion on the decision of the Court of Appeal.In a related development; the Rivers State chapter of All Progressives Congress has hailed the Court of Appeal for upholding the nullification of the election of Governor NYESOM WIKE.State Publicity Secretary of the APC, CHRIS FINEBONE, said in a statement that the judgment is the party’s birthday gift to PDP Chairman, FELIX OBUAH.FINEBONE said the APC believes that the decision by the Appeal Court is a confirmation that evil cannot triumph over good for a long time.
