The Nigerian Senate has resolved to investigate claims of unwholesome practices by pay cable television provider, Multichoice Nigeria.
The Senate’s move against South Africa-owned DSTV is based on a motion moved by Senator HAMMA MISAU from Bauchi Central.
Senator MISAU alleged that Multichoice Nigeria, who are the owners of DSTV, had engaged in unhealthy trade practices, including unreasonable subscription hike, which has led to growing public complaints and petitions.Our Abuja correspondent JAMES IGAH said the Senator disclosed that other complaints lodged against Multichoise Nigeria also include refusal to adopt pay-as-you-go model.Poor service delivery and absence of toll-free lines for customers to make inquiries are also on the list of allegations against the pay TV provider.In his remarks, Senate President BUKOLA SARAKI mandated a Committee of the Senate investigate the matter in the best interest of Nigerians.The Senate Committee on Information is expected to conduct a public hearing for all stakeholders in dealing with the matter.
