The Nigerian Army has recalled over two thousand, five hundred soldiers who were asked to withdraw for alleged offences while serving under the counter- insurgency operations in the north-east code-named Operation Zamani Lafiya. The recall is based on the work of a review panel that was set up by the leadership of the Nigerian Army, which began sitting in Kaduna on 17th of August. Some four thousand soldiers and officers of the Nigerian Army had responded to invitation for memoranda for a review of disciplinary cases emanating from the counter terrorism operations.
The panel also screened and reinstated one hundred and two army officers who were convicted by court marshals or facing prosecution in relations to anti-insurgency operations in the North-East. Reports say the reinstated soldiers and officers have commenced retraining at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Kontangora, Niger State. You will recall that the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel SANI USMAN, had cautioned that the review of disciplinary cases should not be mistaken for total reinstatement of dismissed and deserter soldiers.
