The Presiding Bishop of Abundant Life Evangel Mission, Apostle Eugene Ogu, has called on leaders at all levels to prioritise the welfare of Nigerians by implementing people-centred policies that will reduce poverty and improve the nation’s economy.
Apostle Ogu made the call shortly after a thanksgiving service to mark his 64th birthday, themed “A Life of Giving,” held at Alem Cathedral in Port Harcourt.
He said government exists primarily to serve the people, stressing that leaders have a constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property while creating an environment where citizens can thrive.
Expressing concern over the rising poverty rate in the country, the cleric noted that the harsh economic situation has pushed many young people into crime and other social vices. He urged governments at all levels to introduce policies that empower citizens and promote economic participation.
Reflecting on his 64th birthday, Apostle Ogu thanked God for His faithfulness and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the poor, the less privileged and orphans despite the challenges he has encountered over the years. He also encouraged Nigerians to remain committed to their God-given purpose and continue serving humanity with sincerity.
Several guests at the event paid glowing tributes to the cleric, describing him as a selfless leader, teacher, mentor and philanthropist whose life has positively impacted many people.
