The coup leader in Burkina Faso has vowed not to stand down from power until elections are held.
General GILBERT DIENDERE gave this indication during talks with West African mediators in the capital Ouagadougou. The revelation was made in a document obtained by the BBC, after one of the mediators announced a breakthrough and suggestion of a new transition government to be headed by sacked interim President MICHEL KAFANDO. The suggestion was made by President YAYI BONI of the Republic of Benin. Reports say at least ten people have been killed in clashes that greeted the coup on Thursday last week.
In the meantime; Burkina Faso has been suspended from the African Union, as condemnation continues to trail the overthrow of the civilian interim government by officers of the presidential guard.
