Tension has gripped boundary communities between Eleme and Okrika Local Government Areas of Rivers State following sporadic gunshots linked to a long-standing land dispute between the neighbouring communities.
Although reports of casualties have circulated on social media, the Rivers State Police Command has dismissed the claims. The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the violence stemmed from the protracted land dispute, noting that the land in question remains the subject of ongoing litigation.
She confirmed that only a Hilux vehicle was set ablaze during the incident and stated that the Commissioner of Police has intervened. According to her, investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to restore calm and prevent further escalation of the crisis.
