Senator NDUME drags senate to court claiming damages over suspension

Senator NDUME is claiming damages over his suspension in March this year following the controversy between the leadership of the Senate and the Nigeria Customs Service.
Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the Senate President, BUKOLA SARAKI who is one of the respondents in the case, has challenged the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to entertain the matter.
In a motion filed through his counsel, Chief MIKE OZEKHOME, Senator argued that the case was not duly filed and that the issue of Senator NDUME’s suspension was an internal matter to the Senate, which he said the court cannot interfere with.
Senator NDUME’s counsel maintains that the court has jurisdiction to hear the case and that the suspension of his client was a violation of his fundamental rights.
Senator NDUME was suspended for six months for drawing the attention of the Senate to a newspaper publication against Senator SARAKI and Senator DINO MELAYE for the APC from Kogi West.
Senator NDUME had claimed that his privileges were violated based on the negative publication and called for an investigation of the link between the Senate President and a bullet proof SUV that was allegedly imported with fake papers and impounded by the Nigeria Customs Service.
