According to a schedule of the final stages of the committee’s work, members will on Tuesday 4th of April, hold their final joint meeting at a one-day retreat in Abuja.
Chief Press Secretary to the Senate President, SANNI ONOGU, made this known in a statement obtained by our correspondent in Abuja.
ONOGU noted that during the final session, the committee members, among others, would receive further input, deliberate on their findings and recommendations, and conclude their report for submission to the Senate.
He said they are expected to submit the final printed copy of the report to the Senate on 6th April, while the main report is expected to be laid before the Senate on 24th of April, for final consideration and approval.
The work of the committee started with the inauguration last year, and the Senate President had, while declaring upon a three-day public hearing organized by the Committee last December, emphasized that the PIGB was meant to create efficient and effective governing institutions with clear and separate roles for the petroleum industry.
The PIGB is an enhanced version of the Petroleum Industry Bill that has been pending before the National Assembly for several years.
