The Senate reached the resolution following a motion sponsored by former Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, who is now Senator representing Borno central.
The request by the lawmakers is coming 6 months after they asked the Service Chiefs to resign, which is the third time the Senate is passing the resolution.
The Senate asked the President to replace the security chiefs with new ones immediately.
Senator Shettima had drawn the attention of senators to the killing of more than forty farmers at Zabarmari village.
Meanwhile; the lower chamber, the House of Representatives passed a resolution to invite President Muhammadu Buhari to brief the House on the true state of the security situation in the country.
The House of Representatives also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on security matters.
The decision to summon President Buhari was taken when the House considered a motion moved by members from Borno State on the recent massacre of forty-three rice farmers in the state by Boko Haram insurgents.
Chief of Defence Staff; Gabriel Olonisakin, Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Burutai, Chief of Air Staff; Sadique Abubakar, and Ibokete Ibas, Chief of Naval Staff, are all overdue for retirement while the Inspector-General of Police is due for retirement next year.
