NARD embarked on a nationwide strike on July 25, following Federal Government’s failure to agree to their demands on issues centered on welfare of the doctors.
However, President of Association of Resident Doctors, RSUTH, Doctor Nimi Briggs, in an interview with Today FM’s Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe, said they are already in talks with the Rivers State Government, with the hope that some of the issues will be addressed.
Doctor BRIGGS, who noted that resident doctors in Rivers State are yet to receive one tenth of the demands of NARD,also said no specific timeline has been given by the state government when these issues will be addressed.
Doctor Briggs also stated that the work load in the hospital has tripled, following the strike by doctors in the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, and other teaching hospitals who refer their patients to the hospital because of the strike.
On the consequences of ARD, RSUTH joining the strike, he said there will be health crisis in the state, if their issues are not addressed speedily by the state government.
