The campaign will run from the 12th to the 18th of October.
Speaking to health correspondents in Port Harcourt under the aegis of Media Advocates for Health, the State Health Educator, Doctor Dianne Babbo, explained that the measles vaccination is targeted at children aged 9 months to 5 years, while the polio vaccination during this campaign is for children from birth to 23 months.
Doctor Babbo noted that although Nigeria has been certified free of wild poliovirus, there is still a variant that can cause paralysis, stressing the importance of continuing the fight against this variant.
Doctor Babbo also disclosed that the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, which protects against cervical cancer, will be administered during this campaign, adding that it has now been made a routine vaccination for girls aged 9 to 14 years at all primary healthcare centers in the state.
She highlighted the need for mothers to understand the critical role of vaccinations in protecting their children’s health.
Doctor Babbo further emphasized that all the vaccines, including those administered at primary healthcare centers, are free of charge.
