Rivers State House of Assembly considers bill of establishment of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

The Speaker of the House, DABOTORUDIMA ADAMS referred the bill to the Committee on Education for further legislative work.

The Education Committee is also mandated to come up with a report within forty eight hours.

Our correspondent reports that bill seeks to amend the criteria for the appointment of the Vice Chancellor for the institution, which requires that such a person must be a Professor of Education.

The bill also seeks to extend the retirement age of Professors of Ignatius Ajuru University from sixty-five to seventy years.

It also provides for the Vice Chancellor of the institution to serve a single tenure of five years.

During the debate in plenary, some members of the House of Assembly spoke in support of the proposed amendments.

Meanwhile; the Rivers State House of Assembly has deferred debate on reports of the Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions over a dispute between the people of Abua-Odaul Local Government Area and the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company.
