Governor WIKE made his pledge during a courtesy call on him at the Government House in Port Harcourt by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TUKUR BURUTAI.
According to a statement released by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Governor WIKE said he would do everything to ensure peace and security in the Niger Delta.
This is as the Chief of Army Staff; Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai explained that the Operation Crocodile Smile was introduced to train army personnel on the techniques of operating in the Niger Delta.
WIKE said the Rivers State Government is fully in support of Operation Crocodile Smile; adding that he was briefed about the operation by the Brigade Commander.
He said one of the advantages of the programme is the dislodgment of hoodlums from the creeks for a safer Niger Delta.
The Rivers State Governor said he would continue to support the military operation insofar as it was done in line with the constitution.
Governor WIKE said the State Government has procured six new Armoured Personnel Carriers for the Police, and is in the process of concluding the acquisition of ten gunboats for the Nigerian Navy, which forms part of its continued support for the security agencies.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TUKUR BURATAI was accompanied by other Senior Army Officers on the visit to the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt.
In his remarks, Lieutenant General BURATAI explained that Operation Crocodile Smile would ensure that the security challenges in the Niger Delta are addressed for the enhancement of peace in the region.
The Army Chief said that the exercise is intended to provide the civil authorities with the right environment to carry out governance.
He said the exercise will ensure that the troops are professional with the required training to conduct operations within the law.
