The Commissioner for Housing, Basoene Benibo, who represented the governor, urged the public to embrace the new system, highlighting its potential to enhance efficiency and boost revenue through the adoption of modern technology.
The Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Tonte Davies, expressed his delight in marking a significant milestone for the Authority as they transition from analog operations to the launch of a state-of-the-art digital and automation system which aims at enhancing device delivery for the betterment of the state.
Tonte, stated that the automation system unveiled, represents commitment to leverage technology to serve the public better, faster and more efficiently emphasizing that it would reduce administrative delays and bottlenecks as well as ensure accessibility and transparency of their services.
Among other benefits he emphasized that the system has an authenticated feature which intends to eliminate imposters adding that it also incorporates advanced data analytics to provide real time insight and support informed decision-making, which is in line with their mandate to develop new cities within the Greater Port Harcourt City jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, some indigenes of the Rumuagholu Community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have revealed that the Zone Sixteen Nigerian Police is investigating the Greater Port Harcourt Authority and the Director of Riv-Taff Estate over the alleged forceful acquisition of their land known as Ohia-Mini, following a petition raised by the community.
One of the community leaders, Prince Amadi, confirmed to Today FM that Greater Port Harcourt is allegedly forcefully acquiring the land, despite judgments from the Supreme Court and Rivers State High Court in favor of the Rumuagholu people in 1950 and 2020.
Amadi claimed that some individuals within the community are collaborating with the Greater Port Harcourt Authority using fake documents to unlawfully acquire the land, but noted that they failed to prove ownership of Ohia-Mini when all parties were interviewed by Zone Sixteen in Bayelsa State.
He urged the Rivers State government to cease further encroachment on Rumuagholu land, and warned that the community will use every legal means to resist any attempt by the government to deny them their rightful inheritance.
