The NLC chairman in Rivers State, Alex Agwanwor, said this when he spoke at the Yakubu Gowan stadium in Port-Harcourt, to mark the May Day celebration.
Agwanwor stated that workers in the State are expecting only pronouncements that will restore their losses over the years in the state public service.
He said only Rivers State and Bayelsa that are yet to domesticate the policy to approve the retirement age of teachers to 60 and 40 years, appealing to the Governor to domesticate same in the state public service.
Meanwhile; the state chairman of Trade Union Congress TUC in Rivers State, Ikechukwu Onyefuru also appealed to the Rivers State Government for the urgent intervention to renovate the secretariat and provide working environment for civil servants in the state.
Some workers also expressed their feelings about the May Day dedicated to them.
Meanwhile, the Organised Labour has demanded the review of retirement age for all public servants from sixty to sixty-five years and from thirty-five to forty years of service.
Labour made the demand during this year’s Workers’ Day Celebration with the theme, ‘Workers’ Rights and Socioeconomic Justice’.
Past and present leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, as well as those of other affiliate unions, converged on the Eagle Square Abuja in commemoration of the 2023 May Day Celebration.
The Organised Labour also demanded that an independent panel be set up to investigate the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, MAHMOOD YAKUBU,and his team over their conduct in the 2023 general election.
The body further demanded an investigation into the sending of twelve billion naira by the Ministry of Aviation to buy ten fire trucks.
