Rivers NLC back calls for exclusion of teachers salaries from control of LGA’s.

State NLC Chairman, BEARICE ITUBO said the

fear being expressed by the Nigerian Union

Teachers against the move for local

government autonomy was valid.

Speaking in an interview with our

correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA, ITUBO said

the welfare of primary schools teachers

would not be adequately catered to by the

local government administration.

She made a case for the local government

councils to focus on the traditional

council workers who have been there from

the onset.

The labour leader maintained that the

welfare of primary school teachers and

primary healthcare workers should be left

to the state government.

However; BEATRICE ITUBO maintained that

the NLC was in total support of Local

government autonomy.

The NLC Chairman also appealed to the

Rivers State Government to ensure

immediate release of the labour leaders in

the judiciary who were kidnapped last week

around Ikwerre on their way back from an

official duty.
